A knowledge of basic statistics is important for the researcher.

Binomial Distribution:  A common analysis where the chance of differnet outcomes in a single group is perdicted.  The chance for the expected outcome is entered along with the total number in the group and the number of observations which are different.

For example if a researcher is looking at a group of 41 research studys which evaluate a treatment and 12 studies failure and another 29 studies show a success, then the probablity of this observation being significant by chance alone (Probability of Success = 0.5) is P < 0.004.  Note: You must enter a "0" infront of the probability fraction, thus, enter "0.5" not ".5"   (The calculator actually registers zero for significant values less than p < 0.001)
